Start at the very beginning…
Hello there!
New website… new blog! It’s been years since I’ve blogged so I’m a little rusty, but I’ve missed it and am sitting on a ton of material that somehow isn’t a natural fit for social media, so… here we are.
Caveats first - I am in the second half of my final year of my undergraduate degree — a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Law and History. This final year entails a very demanding course at the University of Oxford in researching, writing and publishing history. My main aim in taking the course was to hone my writing skills in ways tailored to writing about historical matters, especially the vivid stories of real people in real locations, in the context of material culture especially clothing. The course is delivering exactly the opportunities I had hoped, and one of the key goals that has come out of the assignments is… to publish my work regularly.
So here we are.
I am putting final touches on the shiny new website right now, with Monday, 8th February 2021, being the target date to LAUNCH.
More blog posts to come….
For now, may I tantalise you with this beauty that I came across during a study visit a few years ago at the Am Fasgadh collection in Newtonmore, Highlands, Scotland. Am Fasgadh is owned by High Life Highland, the same Council-run charity that operates the Highland Folk Museum (where scenes in the first series of Outlander were filmed). Am Fasgadh is an appointment-only study and storage facility with no display or viewing facilities. I have spent several fruitful study days there now and can’t wait to go back again soon.
This fragile silk beauty has some stories to tell….
